Becoming a Better Parent

The December issue of Flying Start Parenting magazine features the story of a typical stressed mum who found something that dramatically helped her cope, and be a better parent too.

Helle Pettersen, nurse and mother of three-and-a-half year old daughter Josephine, was a “doing machine”.It was when Josephine observed: “Mum, you’re not happy” that Helle realised something was going seriously wrong. Despite visiting new places every weekend as a family, and keeping very fit, life was just too stressful. With her mother and brother needing a lot of emotional support, and Josephine beginning to dominate her because she could not say “No”, Helle found the emotional stress was more than she could take. “I felt so weak,” she recalls.

Then, one day, she heard people talking about the benefits of Transcendental Meditation, and certain things struck a cord instantly: the ability to make decisions more easily, improved focus, and above all, peace of mind. She wasted no time in taking a course with her nearest teacher of Transcendental Meditation.

“Through Transcendental Meditation I got myself together,” Helle states. “I am a more whole person. I feel healed from all the emotional stress. All the stress does not get to me. I just feel more content and complete as a parent, I feel much more able to set boundaries and to give direction and structure. .”
