Dr Norman Rosenthal to visit London and East Anglia in October 2016

New book Super Mind now available to order from TM Centres, bookshops and Amazon

Dr Norman Rosenthal, the clinical psychiatrist who first identified Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and prescribed light therapy to treat it, is to visit the UK in mid-October to address doctors and academics at Cambridge University's Department of Psychiatry, Kings College's Institute of Psychiatry and other medical institutions, on: "The Quest for Innovative Treatments in Psychiatry: a Personal Perspective".

He will also be speaking to the general public in London, Colchester and Rendlesham on the subject: "From Transcendence to Super Mind: Accessing Higher States of Consciousness Through Meditation".

Dr Norman Rosenthal is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical School in Washington DC. A highly cited researcher, he has published more than 200 scholarly papers. He was the first physician to describe and name Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and pioneered the use of light therapy as a treatment. More recently he has researched the use of Botox for Depression and Transcendental Meditation for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has authored or co-authored 9 popular books, including several best sellers. His most recent book, Super Mind, reached number one in the Washington Post best sellers list.

Super Mind draws on the experiences of people from all walks of life, including highly successful business people, directors and actors such as Ray Dalio, David Lynch and Hugh Jackman. Super Mind, which reached number one on the Washington Post best-sellers list, describes how TM helps people access expanded states of consciousness, thereby promoting personal growth and boosting performance. Rosenthal supports these observations with a survey of 600 TM practitioners.

Referring to the hundreds of peer-reviewed research studies on TM, Rosenthal notes: "In my 37 years as a practising psychiatrist, TM is one of the most potent non-drug treatments I have encountered. I recommend it frequently in my own clinical practice". TM can reduce anxiety and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, and reduce the adverse effects of stress on the body — such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, heart attacks and stroke. In the book Dr Rosenthal compares and contrasts transcendence with mindfulness, illustrating how they differ in their technique and effect.
