What happens when you meditate?

The TM technique allows your mind to easily settle inward, until you experience the most silent and peaceful level of your own awareness. It is completely different as it involves no concentrating or focusing, no trying to "empty the mind".

Will and Janet are very experienced TM teachers having taught in the local area for 32 years and before that in London and the south coast. They have taught many people from all walks of life including families whose children attend the local Maharishi Free School, as did their own sons. Near to the Maharishi school, there is a spacious meditation centre, offering regular group meditation, and a natural health care clinic providing superb Maharishi Ayurveda treatments. In 2000, this development won the prestigious British Urban Renewal Award in recognition of its success in improving the quality of life in the area through a "joined-up approach which addresses education, health, housing, employment and crime in a positive and unusual way".

The first step is to attend a free introductory talk or "Info Session".
This will be presented by a certified teacher of Transcendental Meditation and generally takes about 1 hour. You will find out:

  • Why TM is so effective for stress and anxiety
  • Why anyone can practise TM
  • What benefits you can realistically expect
  • How it works – the process of transcending
  • How TM differs from other meditations
  • What happens during TM

Following the talk there will be an opportunity to meet privately with the Teacher to discuss personal considerations.

The talk is a prerequisite to joining a course of instruction in TM, but there is no commitment to learn. It is open to everyone even if you only have a mild curiosity! Feel free to bring a friend.

Courses of Instruction

Transcendental Meditation classes are offered by appointment in seven steps, at times convenient to you. The first 3 Steps can be taken in one session (Introductory lecture; Preparatory lecture; Personal interview). Step 4 – Personal instruction in Transcendental Meditation and steps 5, 6 and 7 must be taken over consecutive days for about 1.5 hrs each session. As part of the course fee, we provide a six-month follow up programme of regular checking and knowledge meetings, to ensure the best start and maximum benefits over time.
