Learn to meditate in East Sussex

'20 minutes, you just notice the difference. I do it first thing when I wake up....The more we love what is natural and beautiful, the easier it is for us as women' - Jennifer Aniston

Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a proven technique practised twice a day for 20 minutes, sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. TM effectively and quickly reduces stress and tension, develops clarity of mind, and brings profound relaxation to the body. As a result one feels calmer, clearer and more energised in activity. It is not religious and anyone can practise, regardless of age or belief.

What people say...

Overcoming stress and anxiety

For Jackman, one of the most practical and tangible benefits of practicing meditation has been a relief from nervous restlessness bordering on compulsive-obsessive disorder.

In an audio interview to Howard Stern – himself a TM practitioner – Jackman described how his mind had previously been on a constant look-out for something to do, and how this had led to bizarre habits.

Jackman revealed how in his youth he had to tap his knee for five times… or how, while driving, he would raise his left foot every time a telegraph pole went past the window: "There was no fear of something bad happening, just the need to ceaselessly occupy the mind."

With meditation, however, Jackman has mastered the art of leaning back and letting go.

"In meditation, I can let go of everything. I'm not Hugh Jackman. I'm not a dad. I'm not a husband. I'm just dipping into that powerful source that creates everything. I take a little bath in it.

Katy Perry's formula for absolute rest

The 31-year-old singer practices the technique every morning while sitting on her bed with her eyes closed for about 20 minutes to make sure she is relaxed and in a good mood before she starts work.

"I start the day with Transcendental Meditation. It puts me in the best mood. I wake up and just prop myself up in bed for 20 minutes. It's the only time my mind gets absolute rest,"

"It's something that's with you for your whole life," Perry says. And she is keen to emphasize the practical, day-to-day value of practicing TM.

"You learn your mantra, it never leaves you, and it's the deepest rest your brain gets. For people that are so creative and have this kind of creative faucet that never turns off – it just continues and continues – it can be a little exhausting.
