Take the first step Learn meditation in Birmingham

Claire Winteringham

Claire Winteringham learnt TM over 40 years ago when she was studying for her art and design degree at Manchester and has enjoyed the benefits ever since. She still works part time painting and designing in watercolours. In 2014 she fulfilled a long held desire to become a teacher of Transcendental Meditation. She now teaches alongside her colleague Huw Meads in the Birmingham area, where she grew up.

Huw Meads

Huw originates from Sutton Coldfield and is currently a lecturer in Media Studies at Bournville College in Birmingham. He became a teacher of Transcendental Meditation in 1990 and has been based in Stratford-upon-Avon from 1996 running the Heart of England Centre. Over the past 20 years more than 1000 people have learnt Transcendental Meditation at the Centre, in both private and corporate courses. Huw teaches courses, leads monthly Meditators' meetings, and offers one-2-one TM checking, in Albany Road, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Public introductory talks are either online or in-person.

...register for an info session

The first step is to attend a free introductory talk or "Info Session".
This will be presented by a certified teacher of Transcendental Meditation and generally takes about 1 hour. You will find out:

  • Why TM is so effective for stress and anxiety
  • Why anyone can practise TM
  • What benefits you can realistically expect
  • How it works – the process of transcending
  • How TM differs from other meditations
  • What happens during TM

Following the talk there will be an opportunity to meet privately with the Teacher to discuss personal considerations.

The talk is a prerequisite to joining a course of instruction in TM, but there is no commitment to learn. It is open to everyone even if you only have a mild curiosity! Feel free to bring a friend.

What is
Transcendental Meditation?

Transcendental Meditation is a simple technique practised 20 minutes twice a day while sitting comfortably.

It is not a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle. Over ten million people of all ages, cultures and religions have learned TM.

"It is our birth right to be happy, to be alert ..."

Hugh Jackman talks about TM

TM's Scientifically Proven Health Benefits

Hundreds of published research studies on the TM technique have documented its effectiveness on stress and anxiety, brain function, cardiovascular health and more.

What happens when you meditate?

The TM technique allows your mind to easily settle inward, until you experience the most silent and peaceful level of your own awareness. It is completely different as it involves no concentrating or focusing, no trying to "empty the mind".

What people are saying
about Transcendental Meditation

Jerry Seinfeld:

"It's like a charger for your mind and body"

Jess

"TM blew everything away"

Ray Dalio & Martin Scorcese

"It brought me a clarity."
"That 20 mins is a god send."

Cameron Diaz

"TM makes me feel whole again."

  • TM is the only meditation practice that has been shown to reduce blood pressure…all other meditation techniques, including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction are not recommended in clinical practice to lower blood pressure.

  • Perhaps its greatest benefit is that it's relatively quick to learn and easy to master. No waiting weeks or months of practice before you see results"

  • According to both the Australian CSIRO and American Heart Association (AHA), the TM technique is the only meditation technique that has been shown to effectively reduce high blood pressure.

  • A 2009 study found Transcendental Meditation helped alleviate stress in college students, while another found it helped reduce blood pressure, anxiety, depression and anger.

How is Transcendental Meditation different
from other meditations?

Compared to other meditations TM is different in two ways.

1. Absolutely effortless

  • No concentrating
  • No control of the mind
  • No mindfulness (monitoring of thoughts)
  • No trying to "empty the mind"
  • Anyone can do it, even children with ADHD

2. Proven effective

TM has been proven effective for stress and anxiety, clarity of mind, and more.
